Chaetomium
Origin: Isolated in soil, dung, paper, dead wood and leaves. Not very common on outdoor air samples. Is often found in indoor air, damp walls, carpets, etc.. Certain species are food contaminants, others are found in woody rotting vegetation, soil,and textiles.
Health affects: Generally considered saprophytic. Reported that it may rarely cause allergies. Known to produce toxins which may have an effect on human health./P>
The species in air samples are not very common. They are part of the Ascomycota.
