Allergist

Dr. William H. Yang (M.D., FRCPC)
Dr. Yang is a Clinical Assistant Professor, Department of Medicine, at the University of Ottawa, Section Head of the Allergy and Clinical Immunology at the Ottawa Hospital and Past-President of the Canadian Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology. A fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, Dr. Yang is a member of numerous professional organizations including the Canadian Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology Foundation, American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, Canadian Medical Association and the Ontario Allergy Society.

Dr. Yang is the founder of the Allergy Journal Club of Ottawa and served as president from 1980-1987. Currently, he is a consultant to the editorial board for the Canadian Journal of Diagnosis and the Canadian Clinical Review. He served as a member of the National Workshop on Asthma and the Environment (1992-93) and as a member of the editorial board for the Canadian Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (1996-97). From 1979-84, Dr. Yang was the Director of the Allergy Laboratory at the Ottawa Civic Hospital. Dr. Yang acts as a consultant for our laboratory on medical issues pertaining to aeroallergens.

Biochemist/Computer Analyst

L. Lee Coates (B.Sc., Chemistry/Biology)
Lee received his B.Sc. degree from Bishop's University in Lennoxville, Quebec, Canada, with a major in chemistry and a minor in biology. He has thirty three years laboratory experience at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. During this time he served 12 years as Clinical Laboratory Instructor and for 5 years was involved in a pollen and spore identification and research program. This included developing the computer programs used to simplify counting and analysis of the resulting data. The privatization of this program led to the formation of Aerobiology Research Laboratory.

Biologist

Clifford W. Crompton (B.Sc., M.Sc., Biology)
A 35 year career with Agriculture Canada specializing in weeds and weed control. Cliff was strategic in starting our training program for our Staff when the Company was first established. He is our biology consultant and is highly recognized in the field of Aerobiology. Author of two books:

  • An Atlas of Airborne Pollen Grains and Common Fungal Spores of Canada
  • Pollen grains of Canadian Honey Plants

Microbiology

Frances A. Coates (MLT)
Frances received her training at Algonquin College, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, and was certified by the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Technologists. Specializing in microbiology she has worked in hospital, public health and private medical laboratories. Immediately before joining Aerobiology Research she spent seven years at the Laboratory Center for Disease Control, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, including work in food microorganisms, special pathogens, development of antigens and general microbiology. Here at Aerobiology Research Laboratories she specializes in pollen and spore identification and training of staff. Education programs were expanded to allow people interested in learning to identify aeroallergens to take correspondence courses.
